Hampton by Hilton, NEC Birmingham

The practice has received approval for a new limited service hotel at the high profile gateway entrance to the NEC near Birmingham. The hotel is branded Hampton by Hilton and is part of a roll out of this long established US brand. The hotel is fully air conditioned, has sprinklers throughout and comprises 114 bedrooms, fitness suite, breakfast room, work and living zones and the multi function bar/reception HUB that is an iconic element of the brand.

Alternative energy sources have been designed into the new hotel in conjunction with one of the leading international specialists in this field of work. It is envisaged that the design will substantially reduce the buildings carbon footprint and at the same time reduce the energy costs for the operation.

The design is simple but contemporary and received resounding support from the local authority. On a highly visible site at the entrance to the NEC campus the Metropolitan Borough wanted a building that created a landmark at this important gateway location, with millions of visitors a year to exhibitions and concerts.

The four storey building with its visually strong vertical circulation tower, has a very contemporary design style and is clad in a mixture of STO render and PARKLEX wood veneer faced panels.

The main contractor on this project was Moss Construction Ltd.
